Biography
Dr. Betty Jo Barrett is an Associate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Windsor. For over 10 years, she has conducted research on intimate partner violence in both heterosexual and LGBTQ2A+ relationships, with a specific focus on survivors’ help and their interactions with sources of support in the aftermath of violence. Barrett is currently conducting research on the intersection of animal abuse and woman abuse as well exploring the experiences of bystanders to partner violence in LGBTQ2A+ communities. Prior to her position at the University of Windsor, Barrett was a community social worker in the areas of child welfare and family violence, specializing in work with child and adolescent survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
